Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Episode 14: Those Who Lurk Underground
Episode fourteen starts with the opening credits. Following this, the scene is set in Central, with Roy’s arrival as per his transfer. As he walks down the corridor, soldiers around him speculate about what connections Roy has to be selected at such a young age. Another voice asserts that when one’s rise is rapid, so is the fall that follows. Roy only smirks at these murmurs as he makes his way.
Finally, he reaches an office, knocking on the door before entering. He presents himself to the woman at a desk as Colonel Roy Mustang. The woman apologizes and informs him that the Fuhrer isn’t present. As is happens, he’s gone to the south to conduct an inspection.
Elsewhere, Dolcetto and Roa are fleeing through a sewer with Alphonse in tow. Dolcetto dislikes their situation, but Roa comments that it brings back memories.
Aboveground, the Fuhrer stands outside the Devil’s Nest. He says that here he has come on an inspection and he has made quite the discovery. It’s shown then that Armstrong and a number of other military personnel are in his company. After that, the title of the episode is shown.
Following this, focus shifts to the inside of the establishment, where Izumi and Edward stand ready to face Greed. However, Greed only laughs at the fact that he’s got a kid and a housewife to deal with. He says that he doesn’t quite feel comfortable fighting them, so he’s going to be running away.
Izumi starts to object and coughs up blood, prompting Edward’s attention toward supporting her. Greed runs away, and Izumi coughs up more blood. At that moment, soldiers arrive and point guns at the two of them.
In the sewers, Martel has her hands full with Alphonse, who’s trying to crawl away despite her resistance. Despite her telling him to stop, the boy refuses, but their debate is interrupted when Greed approaches. Martel lifts Alphonse’s helmet to greet him, asking what happened and saying that Roa and the others haven’t returned yet.
Greed replies that things have gotten a bit more complicated and that they’re going to have to find a way out. Their conversation is interrupted as Bradley informs them that he’s not going to allow that. He stands directly in their path with two swords in hand, much to the shock of Alphonse and Martel.
Seemingly unconcerned, Greed asks the Fuhrer what brings the highest man in the land there. Rather than reply, Bradley asks how old Greed is, and when met with puzzlement, he informs the Homunculus that he’ll be turning sixty soon. He adds that as one grows older, one’s body stops moving the way one wants it to. To that end, he’d like to finish this job quickly and return home.
Greed changes one of his arms, attacking Bradley. The Fuhrer attacks and slices off one of Greed’s arms, much to his shock, as he wonders how the man’s able to do that. After repeat attacks, Bradley sends the Homunculus flying. Greed slams into a distant wall.
Elsewhere in the sewers, Roa is facing off against Armstrong, who turns his hammer into a statue of himself. Roa’s puzzled by this, and Armstrong announces that it’s the statuary technique that has been passed down by the Armstrong family for generations. As usual, this is accompanied by sparkles.
Roa decides that he’s going to take the battle more seriously and tosses his weapon aside, transforming into a larger, more bestial form. He attacks Armstrong, and the two exchange blows, but it seems that the alchemist’s attacks don’t have much effect against the chimera’s brute strength.
In another part of the sewers, chimera corpses are shown, accompanied by the sound of gunfire. Soldiers are shooting other chimeras to death. A soldier states that Alphonse has been recovered, and the Fuhrer has given them orders to destroy all of the monsters in the sewers.
Armstrong and Roa continue to battle, and Roa appears to have the upper hand, catching the alchemist’s head and slamming it into a wall. But Armstrong recovers and knocks Roa back. He tells his opponent that it has been a long time since the blood has danced in his veins so. Roa tells Armstrong that he’s impressive and points out that he was also in the Ishbalan War of Extermination.
