Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Episode 14: Those Who Lurk Underground
He replies that she’s the same fine old woman as ever, calling her the Ultimate Spear, Lust the Lascivious. Greed also notes that Gluttony the Voracious hasn’t slimmed down at all. Greed also addresses Envy the Jealous, and what he considers his tasteless getup. Then he asks where Sloth the Indolent is. Lust replies that he’s always absent, still at work.
Greed appears amused, marveling at the fact that none of them have changed in the past hundred years. He then looks down at the Fuhrer and asks who he is. Bradley replies that he’s Wrath the Furious. This Greed questions, aware the man’s the Fuhrer. Lust confirms that he is and calls him their brother, who, as the human King Bradley, has been prepared by Father for the final endgame.
This stuns Greed, who wonders if it’s really possible for there to be a Homunculus that ages. Envy laughs and parrots Greed’s line, “there’s no such thing as no such thing.” He notes that it was Greed’s favorite phrase and asks if he’s forgotten it, suggesting that perhaps he’s gone senile. Greed tells him to shut up, calling Envy ugly.
Envy gives Greed a sharp look, and Greed goads him further, telling him to show them his true self for old time’s sake, calling him Cobbled-Together Envy. In response, he threatens to destroy Greed, deciding that’s what he wants.
But before he can attack, they’re interrupted by a voice, and they all turn toward it. A man tells them not to carry on ugly brotherly quarrels in front of him. Greed greets the man as Daddy-Sir, commenting that he hasn’t seen him in a while, and the man has gone and aged quite a bit.
The man closes a book and addresses Greed as his son, with whom he’s shared his soul, asking why he’s betrayed his father. Greed replies that the man knows better than anyone, calling him Daddy-Sir again. He states that he’s Greed the Avaricious and that’s how his father created him, so that’s exactly how he has lived. If he had remained with the man, his desire would’ve gone unfulfilled.
Father asks Greed if he’ll work for him again, and Greed replies that he won’t. With that, a vat of what appears to be molten lava is raised, and Greed isn’t impressed even as his feet are lowered into the heated liquid. He comments that he doesn’t suppose the flames of hell are quite so tepid, telling his siblings that he’ll be going on ahead to see what they’re like.
The man called Father tells Greed he’ll return to his soul to where he was born. As Greed is destroyed, he says fine but not to blame him if he upsets the man’s stomach, still derisively calling him Daddy-Sir. Even as he is broken down, he laughs to the last.
Pipes from the silo funnel their way to a small tube that drips a magenta liquid into a beaker. This, in turn, filters into a wine glass, which Father holds up for the remaining Homunculi to see, telling them that he prays for their unwavering loyalty and well-being as they move toward the forthcoming day. He then drinks the liquid that was once Greed.
Later that night, Bradley is walking down an open air corridor alone. The silence is broken when his son calls to him, running towar
d him with his mother following at a more relaxed pace behind him. The Fuhrer turns and smiles warmly, greeting his son, Selim. As the little boy hugs him he asks how the inspection went, and Bradley replies that it was a truly fulfilling inspection.
His wife reminds him that he’s not a young man at that moment. She suggests that he should give up his seat to somebody younger and settle down. Bradley tells her he’s not quite ready to be mothballed yet, and then he informs them that he ran into the Fullmetal Alchemist when he was in the south. His son’s excited about this, calling Edward the little alchemist, and his mother comments that Selim loves to hear stories about Edward.
Selim thinks Edward is really cool because he’s the youngest State Alchemist. Bradley only smiles.
As Selim walks between his parents, one hand in his father’s and one hand in his mother’s, he tells them that he’d like to learn alchemy. His mother asks what he would do once he did, and Selim tells her that he’d want to get state certification so he could help out his father. Bradley chuckles and says perhaps in the future he’ll have his son help him out. With those words, the episode concludes.
