The
episode starts out with chibified Switzerland and Liechtenstein (in her cute
pink dress) with flags above their heads. The scene pans back to reveal that
they are placed inside a rough circle that is marked “スイス 関税” (Switzerland Customs). The female narrator explains that people are
able to travel freely between the two countries because the two nations have a
customs agreement.[1] A
chibified (and huffy) Austria appears on the right with an arrow symbolizing
his passage into the circle. The narrator explains that because of this,
travelers from Austria going to Liechtenstein have to go through Swiss customs, because Liechtenstein does not conduct its own customs inspections.
Though Liechtenstein does not have its own entry stamp or conduct its own
inspections, a stamp of the royal crown is available for tourists as a souvenir
at the capital’s tourism office.
The scene cuts to Switzerland
standing in front of a chalkboard. He turns around after having written
something on the board. He tells Liechtenstein that they will cover a
home-training course for self-defense. The camera zooms out to show Liechtenstein
(dressed in her uniform now) listening intently. The words on the chalkboard read “Civil
Defense” in kanji. Liechtenstein watches
as Switzerland draws on the board.
Switzerland begins with the first
lesson: stay away from suspicious people and do not let them into the
house. The picture he has drawn consists
of crudely drawn images of Liechtenstein and Austria with an “x” between them above
their heads. The next lesson is that Liechtenstein
has to not let such people tempt her.
The next figure is Liechtenstein
saying “ja” with an “x” above her head. Switzerland tells Liechtenstein to ask
him if she isn’t certain of something. He drives the key point of “don’t talk
to strangers” home when Liechtenstein starts to speak up. Switzerland tells her
supportively that she should be handle it so far even if it is difficult,
mistaking her speaking up for nervousness. Liechtenstein insists that it is not
the case and says that she thinks the drawings are cute and then asks for Switzerland
to draw some on a separate piece of paper later. Switzerland softly sighs.
[Scene
Change]
Switzerland has moved onto the next
lesson (about wild animals), drawing a very cute squirrel and rabbit on the
chalkboard. Switzerland goes all out as he writes/draws on the chalkboard. Liechtenstein
trembles visibly as she stares at the two drawings and Switzerland tells her to
be wary of wild animals (whose cuteness might be deceiving). The camera cuts
back from Liechtenstein to the drawings several times. Switzerland continues to
draw/write on the board with gusto as he informs Liechtenstein that some animals
even have sharp fangs and/or are poisonous. Liechtenstein continues to tremble
with a sound effect: ブルブル (buru
buru) around her. Switzerland then adds that if Liechtenstein decides to keep an animal, she should take in
more than one.
A green thought bubble appears and expands to
reveal Liechtenstein daydreaming about Switzerland’s chalk drawings as cute
stamps. Large cartoonish flowers rotate slowly in the scene. In addition to the
ones he has already drawn, there is one with Switzerland and Liechtenstein
holding hands. Switzerland stops his lesson when he notices Liechtenstein
staring off into space with little rotating flowers by her face (daydreaming)
and trembles at her cuteness. The two are seen at a table, Liechtenstein
standing at Switzerland’s side as he sits. Switzerland quietly says that they are
going to go back to the lessons when he is finished drawing for her. Liechtenstein apologizes.
